The Outside Foundation’s mission focuses on involving youth in outdoor experiences designed to raise awareness of and educate about the importance of a healthy ecosystem, and to educate them on the value of protecting and restoring the quality of these natural environments. FISH became involved with The Outside Foundation through their Oyster Recycling and Reef Building Initiative which has initiated a grassroots, community-wide oyster shell recycling program on HIlton Head for the purpose of returning shells to the ecosystem through reef and shoreline restoration projects. Since the program’s launch they have collected an estimated 7,996 pounds of shells. When asked about FISH’s choice of The Outside Foundation for a benefit, co-owner Lee Lucier stated, “their mission to expose our local youth to fun outdoor activity while educating them on the importance of conservation is incredibly important to both myself our founder, JR Richardson.”
